LONEOS is one of several active NEO surveys around the globe. Professional and amateur astronomers are involved in the effort to catalog these potentially hazardous objects. It is important to the success of this effort that observations occur from multiple sites around the world. This is the only way to ensure maximum coverage of the sky on a regular basis. Unfortunately, there are presently no NEO surveys being conducted from the Southern Hemisphere, which leaves about 30% of the sky unattended.
